Day 3 : MANGAIN

happy wedding…. Salam dari ROCK Bandung….

So basically, though I’m already married to mr.man, I still need to go through a few necessary processions to make it official to his Bataknese communities.

In their culture, it was a custom to marry your cousin. *yikes! As long as the cousin is the child of your mother’s brother (a.k.a uncle / tulang).

So in my case, I had to be made his cousin in the procession called Mangain, where his mom’s brother “adopt” me to be his daughter. This is to put me in place for adat processions, so in the future, I would know how to position my self in their family. Quite complicated, but it’s worth knowing.

Uncle Toto & Aunty Micky as my batak parents who gave me my Sitorus last name.

Each of them gave me Ulos , the traditional Bataknese woven garment, as a symbol of love and acceptance from the Sitorus
